To give a warning to a stalker

I promise you this is not about attention or provocation or shaming anyone. This is about safety. Women have almost no recourse when it comes to abusive, obsessive men who like to terrorize us and think they can get away with it. And…they’re right. They can. So they do. And until we start exposing them, this will continue to happen. Police doesn’t do anything. No one does. So maybe exposing these creatures is the only recourse.

This person has been terrorizing a couple of female authors for years. Originally appearing as a fan / reader, he quickly reveals himself to be absolutely disturbed, delusional loser who won’t stop at threatening his own life if his target doesn’t give him attention. Then he disappears for a few months and then pops up like one of those whack-a-moles. It usually starts innocently — “hey, listen to this set by Richie Hawtin, I promise I will leave you alone after that!” — and if you answer, it quickly escalates to whining, confessions about personal struggles with addiction or family, and if you don’t reply threats, or pleading for understanding, bizarre confessions about wanting to be a writer, incoherent treatises on literature, etc.

If you ignore him for too long, he’s likely to write a crappy, one-star review on Goodreads, which will stay up for a few weeks. This — and scary threats — is the only power he has.

Eventually he feels badly and writes retraction and a very positive review on Goodreads.

Then it’s quiet. And then it starts again.

I’m posting what I’m posting because it seems that we’ve reset back to innocent emails — about techno this time — except the second email demanded a “read receipt”… I can just feel this s*it escalating.
